EHG Highlights of 2014 - Celebrating 25 Years
2014 was an exciting year for Euro Health Group as we successfully continued to provide consulting services across our four core technical areas while also expanding our portfolio into new thematic fields.
Over the past years, monitoring and evaluation has become a major focus of our work and we have conducted several evaluations, assessments, and reviews on behalf of governments, donors and international organisations. In 2014, we took this experience to another level. While our work so far has focused primarily on outcome and impact evaluations of specific projects or programmes, this year Euro Health Group was hired by bi- and multilateral organisations to conduct high-level strategic and thematic evaluations of their contributions to improved health outcomes globally.
A major achievement was the completion of the Evaluation of the Danish Strategy for the Promotion of Sexual and Reproductive Health and Rights 2006-2013 commissioned by Danida and led by Euro Health Group in consortium with our partner, the Royal Tropical Institute (KIT), Amsterdam. This evaluation sought to determine the contribution of Denmark to improved SRHR outcomes at international and country levels. Building upon this successful partnership, the Consortium was also awarded the Evaluation of the UNFPA Support to Family Planning 2008-2013 which aims to assess the performance of UNFPA in the field of family planning during a five-year period and to provide learning to inform the implementation of the current UNFPA Strategy Choices Not Chance (2012-2020).
All of the evaluations undertaken in 2014 were possible in part due to the participation and dedication of our trusted and highly qualified associated consultants who have longstanding experience in theory-based evaluations and operational as well as academic research.
Additionally we closed 2014 with some very exciting news from the Global Fund; we were awarded two contracts Global Fund’s 2015 Strategic Review in a consortium led by ITAD and the Thematic Review on The Global Fund’s Health System Strengthening (HSS) Support Related to the ‘Middle’ of the Results Chain.
Common for these multi-country and multi-level evaluations is that they go beyond measuring outcomes and impact of a specific programme for internal learning and accountability purposes - to focus on forward looking strategy and policy options and development. The evaluations are highly complex but hold the promise of determining the contribution and impact of development aid for health on a global scale, while also providing a solid evidence base for further improvements of strategies and interventions.
We also continued our work in the areas of health systems strengthening, health financing and pharmaceutical management. We successfully completed the first ever External Verification of the Results Based Financing Project in Zambia and conducted Data Quality Audits on behalf of the Global Fund in Indonesia, Tanzania and Kenya.
EHG, under the consortium leadership of Management Sciences for Health, will continue to provide support to the national procurement and supply chain system in Uganda under a four-year USAID-funded Uganda Health Supply Chain (UHSC) Project. The UHSC builds upon the experiences and accomplishments of the preceding project Securing Ugandans’ Right to Essential Medicines (SURE) of which Euro Health Group was also a partner.
In 2015, we will continue to strive for excellence and improved health globally - through our daily work with partners, clients and beneficiaries in various countries as well as through continuous organisational learning and internal system and process improvements.
We would like to seize this opportunity to thank you for your interest in Euro Health Group and to acknowledge our consultants and partners for their dedicated and outstanding work and contribution in making 2014 a successful year for Euro Health Group and for the organisations and people we serve.
This year we celebrate our 25th Anniversary. We thank the founders of EHG, Ernst Lauridsen and Jens Hasfeldt for their initiative and hope to continue in their legacy of providing quality technical assistance in the health field far into the future. A special thanks to our board members, former managing directors and employees who helped shape EHG into the company it is now and the numerous dedicated consultants and specialists with whom we have worked over the past decades. We look forward to what the future holds.
