Disruption of HIV, STIs and hepatitis services during the COVID-19 pandemic in the WHO European Region

EHG is conducting a review of available data and publications related to the disruption of HIV, STIs and hepatitis services during the COVID-19 pandemic in the WHO European Region.

The COVID-19 pandemic has seriously affected the lives of people around the world and is hampering many essential health services. The interventions required to control COVID-19 and re-direction of health resources have been disrupting the prevention, treatment and care for people affected by HIV, STI and viral hepatitis and threaten the continuous progress towards elimination goals.

Multiple surveys have been conducted and data collected to assess the level of disruption of HIV, STI and hepatitis services in the WHO European Region by various organizations since the beginning of the COVID-19 pandemic. It is important to analyze and consolidate the information generated by these multiple surveys and other publications which complement each other, to provide a comprehensive analysis of the situation nearly 18 months after the beginning of the pandemic.

EHG has been tasked to carry out this important review for WHO Regional Office for Europe and will present the main findings and recommendations in a report due for presentation on 1. December 2021, World AIDS Day.
